Spectrum Fantastic Art Live was pretty fantastic (it's also the reason for the later than usual blog post, I just got back in).  It was a great place for getting portfolio reviews from respected art directors, meeting art heroes, making new friends, getting out of my cave, and watching two of my friends take home top honors from the Spectrum awards show.  My friend Wylie Beckert won the first ever "Rising Star" award while another friend, Rovina Cai, won the Gold Award in the Institutional category (award pics below).  They're both great talents and ones to watch.

Wylie's Rising Star award.  Check out her blog post about the award.

Other than the show, Kansas City was replete with barbecue, jazz, and one creepy-as-hell painting on a restaurant wall.  I loved it.

From Succotash in the Westport area of Kansas City, MO.  Good juice n' vittles.

In other news, I've got a really cool art announcement coming up.
